The House of Gucci
Fashion Icons have long loved the sexy and timeless styles offered by Gucci. Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis fueled the early success of the brand– and their legacy still lives in Gucci’s current designs. The “Jackie” bag, which was worn by Jacqueline in the 1960s and relaunched in 1999, remains one of the most iconic and popular handbags from the design house.
The real transformation for Gucci came in the 1990’s, when Tom Ford pivoted the brand with hypersexual designs and campaign imagery. His sleek, minimalist designs remain were and still are a huge success. Gwenneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, and Madonna were pictured on the red carpet in Ford’s designs. The Tom Ford-era handbags have become collector’s items and continue to grow in popularity. The Gucci Horse bit clutch became the “It” bag of 2023 with the relaunch of design.
In 2015, Alessandro Michele brought a breath of fresh air to Gucci in his role as Creative Director. His over-the-top and embellished designs are destined to become classics. With his departure from Gucci in 2023, his designs will become even more coveted.
Few brands have such recognizable and lasting trademarks, from the bamboo handles, interlocking GG logos, and horse bit details, as well as iconic handbags such as the Jackie hobo, Dionysus, and Blondie.
